The h3T was SO CLOSE to being amazing. if this package was available on the Colorado it would have killed it. 33 inch tires, locking rear diff, available 5.3 v8. Stupid styling is stupid.

No it couldn’t. They added all of those skid plates and rocker rails in the name of “off road ability”, but the real reason for all that crap was to pump up the curb weight to the point that it would fit into a specific tax loophole for business owners. That is why they sold so well and that is why they were made.

I have to wonder which came first, the brand or the loophole. My theory is they were lard ass trucks from the start and the loophole just made them popular. Unlike trucks like the titan xd that are absolutely designed to be heavy to go into the next up class

it wasnt really a loophole before the Hummer. Basically business owners could purchase heavy duty(curb weight) vehicles for “business” use. If those vehicles were above a certain weight class, you could write off 100% of the purchase. Business owners were just getting themselves brand new luxury vehicles and claiming $60,000+ less income for the year. Things have gotten a bit more tight on the rules now and vehicle like the hummer no longer qualify. The way it is written now is somthing like “vehicle must have open cargo area that is not easily accessable from the cabin”. So, basically any standard pickup truck works. This is part of why so many Denali HD, Superduty King Ranch and Ram... whatevers get sold. This change also disqualified the avalanche and Escalade EXT, helping to kill those vehicles.

With the economy somewhat better, fuel cheap again, crossovers booming, and the Chinese apparently still obsessed with the HUMMER brand, I kind of feel like GM/AM General could put the H2 back in production and actually still find a market - even if the majority were built for export.
